Support and hand holding from others who understand what you are going through

Family Friend Profiles

Our Family Friends provide volunteer support when they can to help families in crisis. They all have their own story to tell and have first-hand experience of dealing with addiction in their own family.

The Icarus Trust team will put you in touch with a Family Friend who has the most relevant experience for your particular needs. They are not trained or qualified counsellors and they won’t tell you what you should do. But they do have lots of experience and they will be happy to share this experience with you.

If you wish to do so, they also provide a useful sounding board to talk about any more formal therapy you are receiving to ensure you are getting what you want from what you are paying for.

Our Family Friends often describe their role as ‘holding the hands of those who need it’. They all wish that The Icarus Trust was around when they needed help, which is why they are keen to help others. Usually they will arrange set times of the week with you when they will be available to speak, either over the phone, email or using the online group counselling facility.
