Holiday Relapses
run out of options?
don't know what to do to help?
The Icarus Trust can point you in the right direction!

Family Friends

When our families were in crisis, we did the same addiction related Google searches you are doing now and struggled to find the help we needed.

Which specialist do we turn to first? Which one is best for me? What if it isn’t working? What about the impact on the children, how do we help them? Is this really progress?

So many questions, so many ‘experts’, many of them being very expensive.

The Icarus Trust bridges the gap between the family and the professional. Our Family Friends all have their own personal experiences and speak your language, understand your pain and what you are going through and can help point you in the right direction with the aid of our database of specialist professionals.

How we work – simple steps…

1. You make contact with The Icarus Trust by sending an email from our Contact Page; you can give us as much or as little information as you want.

2. Your email will be passed to one of our Family friends who will then look after you through the Icarus process

3. Your Family Friend will make contact with you by email, whichever you choose, and then find the most appropriate professional counsellor based upon the information you give them.

4. You will be given the details of this counsellor so that you can make direct contact with them.

What does it cost?

The services provided by The Icarus Trust are completely free of charge. This includes registration, signposting to a professional therapist and Family Friend, ongoing Family Friend support and the online group counselling sessions.

We do however ask for a donation from those who can afford it to help cover the costs of providing these services and a bursary scheme to subsidise towards treatment for those who are less well off. We are 100% funded through donations so urge people who can, to give generously.

You only pay the professional therapist for any treatment they provide. They are in no way connected to The Icarus Trust. We aim to secure a discount (minimum 10%) on the hourly rates from all the professional therapists we recommend. Some families then choose to gift 10% saving back to The Icarus Trust, but this is completely at your discretion.

Our Family Friends provide volunteer support when they can to help families in crisis. They all have their own story to tell and have first-hand experience of dealing with addiction in their own family.

The Icarus Trust team will put you in touch with a Family Friend who has the most relevant experience for your particular needs. They are not trained or qualified counsellors and they won’t tell you what you should do. But they do have lots of experience and they will be happy to share this experience with you.

If you wish to do so, they also provide a useful sounding board to talk about any more formal therapy you are receiving to ensure you are getting what you want from what you are paying for.

Our Family Friends often describe their role as ‘holding the hands of those who need it’. They all wish that The Icarus Trust was around when they needed help, which is why they are keen to help others. Usually they will arrange set times of the week with you when they will be available to speak, either over the phone, email or using the online group counselling facility.
